What is branding & why does it matter?!
(And yes, it’s more than just that logo you whipped up in ChatGPT)
One of the most common things I hear from new clients is, “We just need a logo.”
Sometimes that means their brand feels messy, inconsistent or a bit outdated — they just haven’t worked out why yet. Other times, it’s a brand new business and the logo feels like the obvious place to start.
Either way, a logo on its own won’t fix it.
A strong brand needs a clear system that ties everything together, from your logo, packaging and website to your marketing and customer experience. That’s what builds trust, helps you stand out and makes it easier for customers to choose you.
REALITY CHECK #1
When it’s done well, branding helps you:
-
Most industries are hectic. Customers are often looking at multiple options that, on the surface, offer very similar things. Strong branding helps you stand out and be recognised for the right reasons. It gives your business a clear personality and presence, so you’re not just another option in the mix.
-
Good branding acts like a filter. It helps the right people recognise that your business is for them, while quietly discouraging the ones who aren’t a great fit. When your brand communicates clearly who you are and what you stand for, you naturally attract customers who value what you do.
-
People don’t just buy products or services, they buy confidence, trust and perceived value. A strong brand signals professionalism and credibility, which makes it much easier for customers to understand why you charge what you charge. In other words, you’re no longer competing purely on price.
-
So many businesses deliver an excellent product or service, but their branding doesn’t quite reflect that yet. When your brand presentation aligns with the quality of what you actually offer, everything feels more cohesive and professional. Customers instantly understand the value you bring.

So what can I do about it?
Well aside from being an excellent sparring partner and highly qualified true-crime commentator, I help businesses turn messy branding into something clear, confident and built to grow.
Here’s where I can help…
-
This is where we figure out what your brand is actually trying to say.
Before jumping into visuals, we take the time to understand your business goals, your audience and how you want to position yourself.
Then we translate that into a clear visual identity that works across everything you do — not just a lonely logo sitting in a folder somewhere.
-
If your product is sitting on a shelf next to ten competitors, design matters.
Good packaging grabs attention, communicates value instantly and makes people curious enough to pick it up.
I design packaging that looks beautiful, feels intentional and actually helps your product sell.
-
Your website shouldn’t feel like a confusing maze.
It should guide visitors, answer their questions and make it easy for them to take the next step — whether that’s booking, enquiring or buying.
I design custom Squarespace websites that are clear, strategic and aligned with your brand.
(And yes, they’ll look good too.)
-
Once your brand identity is established, it needs to show up consistently everywhere.
From brochures and signage to email graphics and digital campaigns, I help make sure your brand looks polished and professional across every touchpoint.
No more random fonts and colours sneaking in.
-
Social media moves quickly, but your brand shouldn’t feel like a different personality every time you post.
I create branded templates and graphics that help you show up consistently online without spending half your life in Canva.
-
Many businesses sit in an awkward middle ground.
Too established for cheap freelancers, but not quite ready to bring in a full agency.
That’s exactly where I come in.
Through ongoing retainers, I act as your go-to design partner — helping you make smarter decisions, keep things consistent and avoid the “we’ll just wing it” approach that usually costs more in the long run.
REALITY CHECK #2
Am I a good fit for your business?
Most of my clients come to me at one of two points.
✔ They’ve grown beyond the DIY stage
✔ Their product or service is rock-solid
✘ But their branding hasn’t quite caught up yet
Or…
✔ They’re building something new
✔ They’ve got a clear vision
✔ And they want to get it right from the start
Maybe the logo was a quick fix when the business started. Maybe the website, packaging and marketing all look slightly different. Or maybe you’re at the beginning and want to avoid that situation entirely.
Either way, the goal is the same — build a brand that actually supports the business, not one you’ll need to redo in six months.
If you’re looking for the cheapest logo you can find online, I’m probably not the right fit.
But if you want a brand that works as hard as you do, it’s probably time we talked.
REALITY CHECK #3
How do we get started?
1. Say hello
The best way to start a conversation that doesn’t require swiping right. Get in touch via my contact page.
2. We chat
We’ll talk about the weather, your business, what you’re trying to achieve, and whether we’re a good fit to work together.
3. The proposal
Not that kind. Based on what you need, I’ll recommend the right approach or put together a tailored proposal.
4. Strategy + Design + Rollout
Then we get to work building a brand that actually supports the next stage of your business — not just something that looks good on launch day.
